- I have carried out fieldwork in the nomadic society in the eastern part of the State of Mongolia. The combined period of fieldwork has continually surpassed 12 years. Even in survey sites in the countryside far from the border, animal products like cashmere are carried away and various commodities are brought in across the border. In recent years, local residents can be seen cross the national border to go shopping. This kind of change may be witnessed all over Mongolia today. It can be said that it is caused by economic development in Mongolia, but it may be considered as evidence for Mongolia’s being right in the midst of the process of rebuilding and modernizing their relationships with various parts of Northeast Asia.
