About Visas to Enter Japan

A Guide to Japanese Visas can be found at the following website:

For most conference participants no visa will be required to enter Japan. There are 61 countries that have concluded visa waiver arrangements with Japan. The list of those countries and the length of time you can stay in Japan are provided on the web site. Please be sure your country is one of these if you plan to arrive without a visa.

If you are from Russia, one of the NIS countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan), or if you are from the Philippines, you will need to apply for a short-term stay visa to enter Japan. The details are shown on the web site, but remember that before you can apply for a visa, you will need to have a letter of invitation from us, which we send to you and which you include with your visa application to the nearest Japanese Embassy in your country. In order for us to send you the letter of invitation we will need certain information from you, such as your planned itinerary, length of stay, and so on. Please download the form for requesting a letter of invitation from us, complete it, and mail it to the address on the form, as soon as possible, but no later than May 20, 2011.
