Research Fellowships and the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) research fellowships (DC2)
To foster young researchers who will play an important role in future scientific research activities, JSPS provides a special program under which outstanding young Japanese doctoral or postdoctoral researchers are employed as special researchers and research funding is provided.
Every year, several outstanding students in the Departments of Regional Studies and Comparative Studies are employed as special researchers to provide economic support while they continue their research. In 2015, two students in Regional Studies and two students in Comparative Studies were selected for this funding.
Japan Student Services Organization Support
Annually in the spring, the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO, an independent administrative institution) accepts applications for financial aid. These applications must be made via graduate schools. Financial aid is provided in the form of either interest-free or interest bearing loans. Every year several students in the Departments of Regional Studies and Comparative Studies receive assistance in this form, which is applied for annually in April.
