Tapestry (wall hangings)

In Panniqtuuq and Qamanit'tuaq, textile fabrics for wall hangings are produced. Beginning in Panniqtuuq in 1970, the production of tapestry has been promoted as a local industry under the policies of the Canadian government. The themes of many of their works are based on their legends, camping life and family. The artists who design and weave the textile fabrics are all female. Wall hangings of appliqué and embroidery are also produced without using weaving machines.
