Purpose

Videotheque programs that have been developed and provided by Minpaku are a valuable information resource that differs from ordinary broadcast programs in three important ways. 1) The videos were shot during the fieldwork of Minpaku researchers; 2) the original videos are preserved as data for further research; and 3) the edited versions becomes programs for public use. Yet, thirty years since Minpaku was founded, these resources have remained relatively unknown.

The Tuva are a nomadic people whose homeland intersects China, Mongolia, and Russia. To study the Tuva, Minpaku researchers worked not only with local researchers as their counterparts but did research in all three countries within the Tuva homeland. Researchers from four countries conducted this joint research in the three countries, and the results are scheduled to be made available and shared with the Tuva in Russian, Chinese, and Mongol, as well as in Japanese. This Videotheque program is of particular importance because it documents this important experiment in joint research and making available the research results to the people studied.

This forum is being presented as part of the visit of the Minister of Culture of the Tuva Republic to Japan. Dates and times are subject to change, and changes will be announced as necessary on the Minpaku website.
