Purpose

[img]Professor Robert Garfias (University of California, Irvine) is an internationally known ethnomusicologist who has been closely associated with Minpaku where he has served as a visiting professor three times before. In celebrating the felicitous occasion that he has been awarded the prestigious Koizumi Fumio Music Award, a symposium has been organized to discuss his audiovisual documentation of Philippine music.
The presenters will include Ramon Santos (Executive Director, Center for Ethnomusicology, University of the Philippines), Usopay H. Cadar (Director, Mindanao Kulintang Ensemble) and Michiyo Yoneno-Reyes (Associate Professor, Asian Center, University of the Philippines). The language of the symposium is English with simultaneous interpretation in Japanese. All are welcome. For further information, contact Terada Yoshitaka.
