Many ethnic groups live in China. They engage in presentation through a wide variety of media, including ethnography, historical documents and other forms of writing, and drawings as well as oral transmission. Although these presentations continue at present, previous to now there has been no full-fledged research on the subject. This joint research will concentrate on various ethnic groups in the southern part of China, to focus on the wide variety of media, paying attention to both Han and non-Han communities, as well as to marginalized ethnic groups, with the aim of carrying out multifaceted comparative investigations that incorporate historical as well as anthropological viewpoints.
