Indigenous people in the North Pacific rim, including the northern part of the Japan Islands, Sakhalin and the Amur River basin, were not merely hunting and fishing people, but were also active traders.
Their trade was interrelated with the movement of a strong commodity economy, which had intensified in various parts of the world, including the East Asia, since the twelfth century.
The introduction of various trade items resulted in a unique artistic culture.
In the exhibition, three regional exhibits and two theme exhibits portray the trade world of indigenous people in the North Pacific rim.
