ここ10年ほど、米国イェール大学と共同で進めてきたアンデス文明初期における公共建造物の出現と社会変容の関係についてまとめた学術書であり、アンデス考古学の重鎮から若手研究者まで参加し、最先端の成果が盛り込まれている。
